When historic Ellicott City was devasted by the hundred-year flood of 2016, local businesses, non-profit organizations, and business development professionals from the Howard County Economic Development Authority (HCEDA) came together to help the town rebuild. In partnership with HCEDA, the Small Business Administration, Small Business Development Center, Maryland Department of Housing & Community Development, Preservation Maryland, One EC Recovery Project, the Ellicott City Partnership, and The Verve Partnership, Harkins helped create The Millworks Business Resource Center by providing support and construction services.
The office centralizes space for organizations into a single area. Business owners can use workstations, also creating a mixed-use co-working space. The Center is a beacon to businesses and property owners to gain access to business and recovery resources.
