DMG Foods

Baltimore, MD

doing the most good

The Harkins Commercial Group jumped at the chance to work on this unique project. The Salvation Army had bought an old warehouse in the Waverly neighborhood of Baltimore with plans to make an impact on people’s health in the community. We helped them transform it into a clean, affordable place for people to buy fresh and healthy food, learn smart spending habits, partake in social service offerings, and receive supplemental no-cost food items.

Existing Structure

Named after The Salvation Army’s motto Doing the Most Good, this 7,000 sf non-profit grocery is the first of its kind for The Salvation Army of Central Maryland and one of just a handful currently in the U.S. The store will provide healthy and affordable food in East Baltimore for families and individuals receiving SNAP benefits. There is a butcher counter, deli, bakery, and dairy department, and 15,000 shelved items that are purchased for about 5 percent lower than tradition grocery stores.

DMG also serves to address the need for specialized training opportunities in the grocery industry through a workforce development program and partnership agreements with several area supermarket chains. Harkins was proud to bring this project to life.
