Susie Clemens Breaks Ground
Hatfield, PA
On Friday, June 14th, Harkins attended the groundbreaking of the Susie Clemens House in Hatfield, PA. Susie Clemens is the third and newest affordable retirement building at the Derstine Run Community for our client Advanced Living Communities, with Kramer + Marks Architects. Located in an area where affordable senior housing has become critical, it will add 60 one-bedroom apartments, made up of 47 affordable and 13 market rate units. Fifteen units will be targeted to adults with developmental disabilities and behavioral health challenges and six units will be fully accessible. Susie Clemens is the first project in Montgomery County to receive HUD Section 811 subsidies.
Additionally, Susie Clemens will be built to Passive House standards. By virtue of its Passive House design, the building will be so energy efficient that it is expected to use approximately 60% less energy than a comparable multifamily building.
The apartments in the three-story wood frame building will offer exceptional features and amenities, including state-of-the-art fire alarm and emergency call systems, eat-in kitchens, a game room, and a library.
The project is anticipated to be completed in Fall 2020.
