Harkins Awarded ABC STEP and Excellence Awards
Hanover, MD
Harkins is honored to receive two great awards from the ABC Chesapeake Shores chapter. On Thursday, September 19th, Harkins was presented with an Excellence in Construction award for the Easton Readiness Center along with a Platinum level STEP award. The annual Excellence in Construction and Safety Awards ceremony celebrates outstanding projects and quality craftsmanship by merit shop contractors in the Annapolis and Eastern Shore areas. It was held at the Maryland Live! Casino and Hotel Event Center in Hanover, MD.
Easton Readiness Center took the excellence award in the Federal Government / Military $10 to $100M category. This project replaced the original armory, which was built in 1974. The armory was demolished and the site was cleared to make way for the one-story, 37,000 sf facility with a 300 sf unheated storage building and a 4,237 sf maintenance training bay. This design-build facility is made up of structural steel structures with concrete and masonry foundation. It houses the Detachment 1, 729th Quartermaster Company, the D Company 1-175th infantry, and a state Veterans Honor Guard team.
Our safety department was recognized with a Platinum STEP Award. Platinum is the second highest level of recognition in ABC’s Safety Training and Evaluation Process, honoring companies for the outstanding quality of both their safety program and their safety record. Through ABC’s national Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) program, participants are rated on 20 components, including management commitment to safety, employee participation, use of personal protective equipment, and record keeping. Harkins has been participating in the STEP program for over 20 years, and we pride ourselves on making safety a top priority.
The Harkins team was joined at the banquet by Al Schweizer from the Maryland Army National Guard and Oz Ozturk from the Maryland Department of General Services.
