We Are Owners
Everyone Has A Stake
Building something exceptional means starting with exceptional people. And exceptional people aren’t just a part of something great — they own it.
Every Harkins employee is an owner. As stakeholders in our own success, we combine the talent and expertise of our team with an unyielding commitment to delivering work of the highest caliber.
At Harkins, we build the best by supporting our people with the same dedication we bring to every project. We foster environments where every individual can thrive, both professionally and personally, creating opportunities for development.

Work With the Best

The People Behind Our Success
I’m proud to be an employee-owner of a company that manages to maintain a strong team atmosphere as we grow. We know the importance and value in supporting and encouraging each other’s goals at Harkins. That emphasis on team is extended to our clients and trade partners on every project to strengthen those partnerships, provide quality products and a shared sense of pride that we can replicate for years to come.
As I approach 20 years of service at Harkins, I can truly say this company has been instrumental in both my professional journey and my ability to contribute to causes I deeply care about through their community service support. My enduring commitment stems from an alignment with the company’s values and its dedication to both its employee-owners and the wider community. I’m proud to be part of this team.
Affinity Groups
Harkins affinity groups were created in 2018 to connect employee-owners with similar backgrounds or interests. By collaborating regularly, affinity groups have a powerful influence in the workplace and beyond.
Leadership Spotlight
Ben Nichols, President & CEO
A former Marine Corps combat engineer, Ben brings mission-driven leadership and a deep commitment to service into every aspect of his role. Since joining Harkins in 2016, he has played a pivotal role in the company’s growth—guiding teams, strengthening culture, and driving strategic initiatives with a sharp focus on people and performance.
Ben’s construction career spans both the public and private sectors, with wide-ranging experience that includes DoD facilities, commercial office, healthcare, mission critical, hospitality, retail, and multifamily housing. Prior to joining Harkins, he held leadership roles in preconstruction, operations, and business development at nationally recognized design-build firms.
After being promoted to Vice President in 2020, Ben led the company’s commercial, institutional, and government contracting operations, along with its human resources functions—helping to shape Harkins’ people-first culture while advancing operational excellence. He was named President in 2022, and following the retirement of longtime leader Gary Garofalo, Ben assumed the additional role of CEO in 2024.
Ben is known for his servant leadership style and his ability to unite diverse teams around a shared mission. He draws strong parallels between his military service and the construction industry—both requiring collaboration, adaptability, and a deep sense of purpose. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Ben served as a Marine Corps engineer officer from 2008 to 2013. From 2010 to 2011, he was the Engineering Platoon Commander for 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines in Marjah, Afghanistan, where he led combat operations in one of the most volatile regions of Helmand Province. He later served as a Company Commander and Operations Officer for the Seabees of Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Five from 2011 to 2013, overseeing critical construction and infrastructure missions across the U.S., Africa, Europe, and the Pacific.
