Project Accountant

Supports the financial management of projects by maintaining accurate project accounts, reviewing invoices and job costs, processing payments, and preparing reports. This role works closely with project teams, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure timely and accurate accounting throughout each project.

Responsibilities

  • Create project accounts in the accounting system.
  • Maintain project-related records, including contracts and change orders.
  • Input the transfer of expenses into and out of project-related accounts.
  • Review supplier invoices related to the project.
  • Review overhead charges to be applied to a project.
  • Review account totals related to project.
  • Run a subcontractor detail report and review for errors; notify project manager of any discrepancies.
  • Confer with project manager regarding unpaid contract billings.
  • Report on project profitability to management via cash status report.
  • Assist site teams on assigned projects with certified payroll and accounting for job review preparation.
  • Close out project accounts upon project completion.
  • Process final lien releases.
  • Review sales and use tax on invoices and subcontracts.
  • Perform weekly check runs, process information, print checks, and match with backup.
  • Back-up to field administrators for accounting duties, as necessary.
  • Compile information for internal and external auditors, as required.
  • Process internal check requests.
  • Set-up new subcontractors and vendors in accounting system.
  • Review invoices/requisitions and send to site manager.
  • Process M line invoices (Home Depot, Staples, etc.).
  • Assist PMs with the TO process until integrated with Procore development upgrades.
  • Track and process electric bills on assigned projects.
  • Produce the highest quality work with all job duties.
  • Additional duties might include: reconcile specific vendor accounts and ensure timely payment, process vendor credit applications for approval, and process overhead invoices.
  • Attend required corporate meetings, training programs, and Harkins University seminars/webinars.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Essential Job Duties

  • Knowledgeable with accounts payable and job cost functions.
  • Create, maintain, and close assigned projects in accounting system.
  • Review all documents for accuracy before processing for payment.
  • Timely and accurate payment of project cost, correctness of charges to projects, and maintenance of job cost management reports.
  • Ability to interact and communicate professionally and ethically with internal departments, corporate staff, site teams, subcontractors, and vendors.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two (2)-year degree in accounting, business, or related discipline or two-year equivalent work experience in accounting.
  • General knowledge of basic accounting concepts.
  • Excellent communication and math skills.
  • Possess the initiative and attitude to provide necessary support to corporate staff, site teams, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Ability to use accounting software to include but not limited to Word, Excel, PeopleSoft, Procore, Viewpoint, and Docusign.

Harkins offers a total compensation package that includes base salary, bonus potential, and a comprehensive benefits package including health/dental/vision benefits, paid time off, retirement/401k, and Company Contribution plan. Additional benefits include life insurance, short & long-term disability, HSA/FSA, tuition reimbursement, and mileage and expense reimbursement. For this role, the base salary range is $50,000-$70,000. Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. Base pay is one part of the Total Compensation Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work.
