Patuxent Commons
Patuxent Commons is a three-story, 76-unit affordable housing community in Columbia, MD. Developed as the Howard County’s first intentionally mixed-income, mixed-ability community, the project is based on an intergenerational housing model created by the Autism Society of Maryland, supporting independent living while fostering connections across ages and abilities.
The development includes a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom units designed for older adults, families, and individuals with disabilities. Shared indoor and outdoor spaces are strategically integrated to encourage interaction while maintaining resident independence, reinforcing the project’s inclusive, community-driven approach.
Amenities include a resident lounge, multipurpose room, library, business center, fitness room, and underground parking. Located at Cedar Lane and Freetown Road, the site offers convenient access to transit, healthcare, employment, retail, and recreation.
As a first-of-its-kind model nationally, Patuxent Commons establishes a replicable framework for inclusive, intergenerational housing.
