The Lutheran Village at Miller’s Grant
This project took about ten years to develop, and Harkins was there for a good part of that time, helping the vision shared by all the stakeholders to become a reality. Built on 50 acres of land donated by the Charles E. Miller family to Carroll Lutheran Village, Miller’s Grant is a sprawling faith-based not-for-profit continuing care retirement community.
Harkins’ contract included infrastructure development of the site and construction of 205 independent living apartments and two guest suites in four buildings, a 27-unit high care building with assisted living and skilled nursing, and a 30,000 gsf community center with dining venues, a fitness center, and other amenities. All six buildings are connected, with the community center at the hub. 24 detached homes and six duplexes on the outside of the loop road were built by Williamsburg Homes.

CCRC Experience
Harkins’ extensive CCRC experience was especially valuable in coordinating details and trades where different building code classifications meet.
5 Story Building
Residential Building C is a five-story building with a three-hour separation between the terrace level (concrete plank, structural steel, concrete and masonry bearing walls) and the four stories of wood frame construction above.
Built for Safety
High Care is a non-combustible structure of metal stud, concrete plank, and structural steel, with fire retardant treated wood in the roof structure.
